As many as 72% of Slovaks know that Košice will be the European Capital of Culture in 2013
The fact that Košice will become the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) in 2013 was known by 72% of people that took part in a survey in December 2011 during a tour of Slovak cities (Bratislava, Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Prešov and Košice) - KULTOUR 2013, carried out by Košice 2013 non-profit making organisation. The best source of information is television, online newspapers and the internet. The most popular event in the ECOC portfolio has become the White Nights/Nuit Blanche event.
Košice, the European Capital of Culture 2013, is headed out on tour to Bratislava accompanied by a non-traditional, multi-functional mobile podium on wheels - KULTOUR 2013. The Košice 2013 team will kick off the program in the capital on 13 December at 4:00 PM at Primaciálne námestie (Primate's Square). The tour going forward will include visits to the following city centres: Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Prešov and Košice. The organizers want to use this unconventional format and accompanying program to bring the project closer to all the residents of Slovakia.
The Palace of Wonders in Buda, part of the capital of Hungary, has become the next stone in the mosaic of the Creative Factory project. It will be placed in the City Exhibition Center in the Barracks/Culturpark grounds. This will be reconstructed as part of the Košice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project.
Coalition 2013+ members significantly support the Košice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project
Two founding Coalition 2013+ members - U. S. Steel Košice, s. r. o. and Východoslovenská energetika, a. s. (Coalition 2013+ is the legal entities interest group) significantly support with their activities the Košice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project.
In cooperation with Futura, Prague, and the Triangle Arts Association, Brooklyn, the International Visegrad Fund is opening a call for applications for artist-in-residence scholarships in New York in 2012. The residencies are intended for visual artists who are citizens of the Visegrad Group countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia). Deadline 22 December 2011.
Michal Holy is in Chisinau since September 9, 2011, where he takes part in KIOSK artist in residency program. During this period he has established a relation with Chisinau urban space, crossing it on the bicycle and by feet, looking for common for his native city of Kosice features.
Košice 2013, n.o. within project Kosice A.I.R. (artists in residence) offers three-month residency in Kosice (Slovakia) (from May to December 2012) for artists from abroad. Deadline for applications: 31. December 2011.
Mayor of Košice Richard Raši and President of U. S. Steel Košice David J. Rintoul signed a Memorandum of Understanding on November 10, 2011. They agreed on realization of the Creative Factory project in one of the buildings in the Barracks/Culturpark grounds. It will be reconstructed as part of the Košice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project.
