ANGELS OF KOŠICE ARE WATCHING...
Hundreds of local children of elementary school age joined the initiative to win the European Capital of Culture title (ECC) and participated in a project called Underneath the wings of an angel, lead by the project proponent, E. Kratochvílová. They created endearing art pieces free of convention - mainly large formats, paintings, even unique sculptures – as a one-of-a-kind greeting on the brink of summer holidays
Angels of Košice are watching, declares the central slogan of the initiative, and beckons to all city folk, that there is nothing to fear, that nobody is alone – the guardian angels are watching, protecting and helping us. " The theme was inspired by the Košice's coat-of-arms; coat-of-arms shielded by an angel, who, to us, is a very strong symbol of guidance when we tried to overcome troubles in life. When we want to reach our goal, we also ask angels for help," said the "angel" project coordinator E.Kratochvílová at the press briefing last week. She stressed that the activity has been motivated by an effort to involve as many city inhabitants in the Košice ECC 2013 project as possible. It has been crowned with even greater success because it has involved the youngest group of inhabitants, who in case of Košice's victory in 2013 would have reached adulthood.
The organizers aimed to publicize art pieces in a publication, calendar or as postcards. Beside painting, students of Higher vocational school specializing in metallurgy in Košice-Šaca created several metal sculptures, which were designed by Helmut Bistika. They were impressively decorated by handicapped children and placed at frequented spots in the city centre.
