French and Slovak Artists Reviving Story of Little Red Riding Hood in Garrison House
A group of French artists called Lá Hors De set to revive the traditional fairy-tale story of Little Red Riding Hood. They find the fairy-tale known by almost all Europeans save that different countries have different versions of the same story. The crowning achievement of their multi-month project called Quelque chose est Rouge – Something is Red will take place when they will be staying here for three weeks to set up their final show and present a kind of universal version of the story as they have collected from several European countries including Slovakia.
“The French artists will arrive in April to spend three weeks and prepare a performance of Little Red Riding Hood in cooperation with the Slovak artists, actors and musicians at the premises of the barracks in Kukučínova street. The artists are apparently interested in the Slovak version of Little Red Riding Hood, that´s why they will also be inquiring the people right on the streets for the period of those few weeks “, mentioned Alena Vachnová from the Košice ECOC 2013 project team.
Under direction of Nathalie Veuillet, the French stage director, the artists will make a new performance right at the barracks, arrange for a stage set, write music and the story itself. The Slovak involvement is represented by the co-organizers of the event, namely the unincorporated association of IC Culture Train and the non-profit organisation of French Alliance.
On Thursday, February 21, the stage director took a view of the barracks premises where the show will be given this spring. “You should be really happy for having something like this in the town. The place is ideal for our project“, acknowledged the director shortly after the visit.
The Something is Red project will be carried out as part of the supporting events to the Košice´s application for nomination as European Capital of Culture 2013. The agreement on cooperation between Lyon and Košice was made as early as last year, and among others it stipulates co-financing of joint events by both parties. This particular event will become part of the French Culture Days in Košice.
