Barracks/Culture Park
The aim of the cultural centre is to provide space for the creation and presentation of the highest quality artistic productions in music, visual art, literature, film, theatre and contemporary dance. These will be new cultural-artistic-social areas for mutual interconnection between visitors and progressive tendency in the area of arts and creativity via transforming the former army stores complex. The Centre for the support of culture and creativity (CVOKK) can provide residents and those interested with cooperation in the creation and preparation of cultural products, induce inter-departmental cooperation and create space for artistic and creative stays for local and foreign applicants (residents from European Capitals of Culture - Marseille, Essen, Graz, Pécs, Mons and Liverpool). A new creative part of Eastern Slovakia will consist of three units: Centre for Education in the Cultural and Creative Industry (CVOKK), which will become a central point focusing upon supporting budding artists and their cooperation with domestic and foreign professionals; a Cultural Centre as the place for the presentation of contemporary art by domestic and foreign artists, consisting of several presentation areas, ateliers and creative studies; City exhibition areas which could be used flexibly, depending upon the needs of the area and the city.
Selected projects under preparation:
1. Antoine d´Agata - an international exhibition of the French photographer mapping the story of European migrants (November - December 2013).
2. "Refresh + 89" - a multi-genre festival reflecting post-November reality via contemporary art (November 2013).
3. Convergences - a traditional festival of chamber music giving space for direct cooperation between Slovak and foreign renowned interpreters of chamber music (May 2013).
4. Make Up Gallery - The Make Up Gallery presents the diversity of an artistic approach and the media in terms of a local artistic context. It supports prominent independent gallery institutions and curators who have already proven their quality in the field of contemporary arts (January - December 2013).
5. European House of Poetry - literary bridging of cultural activities between two partner European Capitals of Culture 2013 - Košice and Marseille as well as the whole network of Houses of Poetry in France and Belgium (January - December 2013).
