The programme will consist of several types of events which will also take place in newly reconstructed objects in Košice and its surroundings (Barracks/Culture Park, Kunsthalle, parks on Moyzesova and Komenského Streets, City Park, Košice Castle, amphitheatre, manor in Krásna - part of Košice, St. Elizabeth's Cathedral, Crafts Lane, SPOTs).

Key events for 2013 (around 10-15 major events) - cultural events of European significance, initiated by the Košice 2013 project and directly arising from key project themes. These will be top artistic events for a domestic and European audience.
• Larger events of national and international significance - cyclic events taking place in Košice and Eastern Slovakia which will have a special edition in 2013 (festivals, etc), or specific events prepared by cooperating subjects complying with the programme and thematic structure of the Košice 2013 project.
• Medium and smaller events - organised with cooperating subjects in Košice and Eastern Slovakia, which will supplement the programme structure for 2013 and which derive from the thematic structure of the Košice 2013 project.
• Additional events - directly unrelated to the themes and concepts of the Košice 2013 project. They will be included in the programme due to their international, national or regional significance and impact upon specific communities (conferences, congresses, workshops, cultural-social events).

The European Capital of Culture Programme in 2013 will not only enliven Košice but also the region and Slovakia. The programme structure therefore focuses upon several geographic areas.
Events in Košice and surroundings (Barracks/Culture Park, Kunsthalle, parks on Moyzesova and Komenského Streets, City Park, Košice Castle, amphitheatre, manor in Krásna - part of Košice , St. Elizabeth's Cathedral, Hrnčiarska Street/Crafts Lane , SPOTs).
Events in the Pentapolitana towns (Košice, Prešov, Bardejov, Levoča, Sabinov).
Events in the Košice Self-Governing Region (mainly within the Terra Incognita project, Košice Castle and manor in Krásna - part of Košice).
Events in Eastern Slovakia.
• Events in Slovakia
- in selected locations with the potential to promote the Košice 2013 project (Bratislava and other towns).

The Košice Interface 2013 project has five basic strategies in terms of cultural programmes.
"Onward to tradition" will include all already established city players and will highlight traditional elements of culture and confront them with contemporary trends (Košice Castle, Hrnčiarska Street/Crafts Lane, amphitheatre).
"Open public space" will support cultural diversity, mutual dialogue between the church and social groups, accept a flow of new ideas and impulses (amphitheatre, parks on Moyzesova and Komenského Streets, City Park and SPOTs).
"Košice elements" - light, water and sound" its major and most fundamental part will be implemented in the Kunsthalle in the reconstruction of the old indoor pool. It is based on seeking breakthrough solutions, new interconnections between the Arts, culture as well as other areas of life; it uses untraditional forms.
"Laboratory of live culture" works with local unique features as creative potential using existing structures whilst focusing upon the young generation and making maximum use of citizens' abilities. An investment project fully supporting this strategy is the Barracks/Culture Park, which will create a new type of city cultural infrastructure in 2013.
"Pilgrimage city" striving to make development processes, cultural maturity and awareness more visible within Europe. These are mainly specific projects such as Pentapolitana - a project of cooperation between five towns (Košice, Bardejov, Levoča, Sabinov and Prešov), with the aim of starting new cooperation between cultural operators in Eastern Slovakia towns, inform the public of the Košice 2013 project, introduce possibilities for cooperation and gain support for activities connected to the project. We expect that the project will be an exemplary example of improving the effectiveness of cultural operators, cooperation with local governments and improving employment in the region via cultural activities in tourism.

This is not a definitive programme for 2013.
Projects are currently being developed with our partners and regional cultural organisations.
It is not guaranteed that all projects contained in our programme will be part of the final programme.
Many other planned projects are in the development and preparation phase. They will be presented throughout 2013.
