St. Elizabeth's Cathedral

The cathedral was built in the high Gothic style and stands in the place of the former parish church which was destroyed by fire around 1370. Building of St. Elizabeth's Cathedral commenced around 1378 and was built in several stages. It is believed that buildings works were completed on the cathedral in 1508, meaning that the building took more than one hundred years to build. The present appearance of the Cathedral has retained its five wings with a crossing of the main wing and transept and polygonal presbytery. St. Elizabeth's Cathedral was declared a national cultural site together with Urban's Tower and St. Michael's Chapel. St. Elizabeth's Cathedral will serve as an area for implementing various programme aims in 2013.
