Designers create works like artists

Design has been presented in Košice in all its glory. It has been proved that the home can be turned into art. The weekend of design and fashion hit the public with light of modern lamps. Molecules and atoms are converted into home products and were made into original jewellery on the spot for those interested.

“We were attracted by the different exhibitions, we wanted to see it, we knew it would be something with fashion, we last came for Košice Days,” Eva Filkorová from Košice told us.“In design it’s like in fashion, here too everything  changes and repeats,” says Beata Kurajová from a Dutch studio and shows a unique table and chairs, which was designed in 1930s.

“We see ourselves as sculptors”

The Czech Republic was represented by the design duo of Eva Mochalová and Marcel Mochal, who together make up the Llev studio. “We work together, especially with craftsmen, we try to give them work, we meet talented people,” Marcel Mochal continues, that he doesn’t just put shape into the glass, but also a certain wit and a subtext. He agrees that it can be compared to contemporary art, that it is going somewhere. “We see ourselves as sculptors, we work with a shape that has function”

Hogo Fogo

Slávka Toscherová from Bratislava presented her own label, Hogo Fogo. Headbands, brooches, necklaces, earrings and other fashion accessories, were snapped up by women on the spot. “I use mainly artificial flowers, pearls, artificial animals, fragments of toys,” the jewellery designer revealed. Original jewellery was made for people on the spot on an unusual production line. Andrea Ďurová explained that they are made of platform: “You can get a unique jewel from elite Slovak jewellers.”

Lamps from molecules

The colorful exhibition from  Tomerko Wójcik  evoked molecules and atoms. Perfectly designed lamps and chairs were particularly noted by the youngest visitors to the exhibition. Lightning Fold impressed again with modern interior lighting. They concentrate on examining the possibilities for the design by bending and folding different types of film and paper. The authors of the lightning objects are Hana and Jakub Novák. A chandelier, reminiscent of flowers, was also enjoyed by the little guests.

International designers charm

Non-traditional glass-products were brought to Košice by Patrik Illo and Agnieszka Bar. In Flowers for Slovakia they gave their glass products names like Tom Thumb, or Elizabeth Báthory. The show also included Blueberries (CZ), Boris Klimek, Linda Viková, Markéta Richterová, Martin Jankura, Morphe (CZ),  Simona Janošová, Tibor Uhrín, the Tri v Jednom (Three in One) studio, the Made by the Forest project (CZ), as well as original eco-design from Wytwornia 21 (PL).
