Just a few months ago, Košice lit up with the fireworks of a cultural explosion when the city took over the baton of the prestige title, European Capital of Culture 2013, together with the partner city of Marseille, and now is the time to pass this on and say goodbye to a year which has brought a new dimension to the city. It attracted artistic personalities and started a process which will not finish when this year ends. There are foundations being constructed on which we will continue to build. This was only the first step on the road to fulfilling the mission that culture and art are and will be an integral part of Košice.
Roos van Dijk will present the outcome of the three month long residency on the 21st of November in Kasarne/Kulturpark. Roos got inspired by the specific built environment of Košice – panel block areas monotonous in shape and variable in the colour palette of the facades. You are more than welcome to join us for the opening on the 21st of November at 18:00 in November pavilion at Kasarne/Kultrupark, Kukučínova 2, Košice.
As part of the Košice 2013 ECOC project, the newly-opened Kunsthalle/ Hall of Art in Košice and the Barracks/Kulturpark (Gallery Alfa) offers cultural operators, curators and artists the chance to implement their construction projects in the years 2014 and 2015
The exhibition project British Express/Britský expres, one of the key and final projects of ECOC this year, brings a sample of contemporary visual art in the form of the works of 25 authors and presents the influence of strong pop-art lessons and the personality of Andy Warhol on the contemporary British art scene on several levels.

Following the last year’s success of Anamnesis by Viktor Bodó, his student director Dániel D. Kovács is coming to put questions about the mental health of society. The ensemble Sputnik is back at Divadelná Nitra. Once again with a good portion of humour and absurdity, this time in the project Parallel Lives on the topic of secret police actives during the communist regime. Or not only then?
Inspired by the hitherto unclarified case of the strange death by priest Coufal in 1981, the authors of the latest production at the SkRAT Theatre are studying the mechanisms which enabled, within the secret police ŠtB, the building up of a parallel power structure and mutual checking of individual members of staff including colleagues at all levels of this organisation. Mechanisms which could be functional even after the dissolution of the ŠtB.
