Handwriting reveals the secrets of politicians, criminologists and left-handers.

Jozef Matej, president of the Slovak Graphological Society   revealed during breakfast – another in a series of events of ECOC 2013 – the secret of handwriting. Seeing, almost as if in the famous TV shows CSI, how detectives uncover the character of our politicians.

People who mix printed letters with joined-up ones are creative. Researching the personality of a man is possible through his signature, words, also from the pages of the written text.  “If I have your handwriting in my hand, I have to know the original material, I examine the extent to which it differs from school-style,” explained J. Matej, adding that graphology is a complex process. “In handwriting there are many signs that tell you about a person, it is not sufficient to find a single symbol.”

Left-slanters are negative

Graphology is applied in psychology. “It shows the nature of the people, evaluates the hitherto anonymous, helping the police in detecting criminals,” said J. Matej. Left-slanted writers are apparently people who have experienced some traumatic event. “For example a person would write like that, if they had witnessed someone being killed right in front of him, or it could be someone who had been repeatedly fired from his job. That does not mean it has to be a complete negative thinker.” Handwriting that begins to slant to the left, and the author leaves a large gap from the left margin, may indicate a psychological problem or even presage suicidal tendencies.

You can’t hide anything in your handwriting!

Left-handers are a special case. Some people alternate writing slanted to the left with the writing slanted to the right. “It tells of a momentary mood, of instability.” Such a person is very creative and needs to work with people. You can write in capitals, use joined-up or a different type of writing, but you can’t hide your character. “In the strokes of hand-writing there is always an element that tells a lot about a person,” emphasized the graphologist.

People’s signatures analyzed

The Košice people were very interested by graphology. Jozef Matej explained that this auxiliary scientific method is subject to a Code of Ethics, and therefore he can not publicly evaluate handwriting for people. Nevertheless, there was a great demand for analysis. The condition was that only positive things would be expressed.  “He analyzed my signature and said things that were true,” said Lenka from Košice.
