Košice has much to offer from its art and culture

The new non-profit organization Košice – ECOC 2013 management continued in opening up dialogue with the Košice community in early October. Executive Director Ján Sudzina and Art Director Vladimir Beskid met with cultural operators – with the representatives of stone cultural institutions and civic society organizations active in culture and the arts. Twelve representatives of Košice culture accepted an invitation and the Coalition 2013+ members also took part in this meeting. There were representatives from State Theatre Košice, State Philharmonic Orchestra Kosice, CREATV and City TV Foundation.

“We want to draw up the program so that we find places in it for all genres and for all who have something to offer. By the end of November we plan together with you to define key cultural events and major events for 2012 and 2013 and set up processes to ensure the development of cultural backgrounds in Košice after 2013, ” said V. Beskid at the outset of the meeting.

State Theatre director Peter Himič praised the new ECOC 2013 management for starting talking about what Košice arts and culture may show abroad. He criticized that the scheduled events leave literature wholly absent. “I am also very glad that you are thinking about exporting Košice culture and not about importing Bratislava culture to Košice, as before,” said Július Klein of the State Philharmonic. Eva Děkanovská from City TV Foundation pointed out that Košice has a great deal to offer. For example, the local television festival is unique in the world. TV Naša has been very successful working with partner organizations in Marseille, which is European Capital of Culture the same as Košice in 2013.
