Mobilfest is proof of the future of film-making

Did you know, that the Bad Witch didn’t want to eat Hansel and Gretel? It was the other way around. Did you know what a difficult life a mother has, when she has a daughter addicted to drugs or how many years it takes for a bivalve crab to evolve into a plastic crab? You can find the answers to these and many other questions at the Mobilfest festival which is being held under the auspices of Private High School of Art (PHSA) on Petzvalova 2, and which began on Saturday in Galeria Shopping Centre in the presence of the president of the project, Marián Čekovský.

No weapons, no words

Recording videos on mobiles is now commonplace in society. Cameras and video cameras began to be pushed out years ago, and this continues today. A short video can be captured on a mobile phone anytime and anywhere. The whole show was hosted by Anna Lemesányiová who started by asking if anyone present had a mobile phone? No one came forward.

In the Cinemax hall, they projected the films of talented students onto the screen. Their work confirmed that creating works which enrich the viewer doesn’t require violence or for that matter, even words. It’s enough to have music, emotion and thought.

About the festival: Mobilfest is an international festival of videos, filmed on mobile phones. Its mission is to develop the creative possibilities offered by the world of mobile communication. “Anyone can enter the competition, regardless of age, as long as they have videos that they have filmed on their phone,” explained Jarmila Uhríková, director of PHSA. “Our idea is combined with ECOC, because good things belong together.”

President Čekovský is preparing a new animated film

Marián Čekovský (a well-known Slovak musician and TV personality) was impressed by the project, he was particularly honored to receive the title of president: “For me mobile is a way to catch hold of events and experiences. I am delighted to have something I can play again and go back to. I’m glad I was at the inception of this festival. Actually with my colleague, Jakub Kroner, I am making a feature film for the station Lokal TV and beyond. It will consist of videos that I have made myself, then we’ll animate them.”
