Probe in the heart – Steel my heart

This documentary play focuses its attention on how the arrival of the East Slovak Steelworks (now US STEEL) and multiple changes of ownership have altered people’s ways of thinking. Often just through the prism of gaining power and money.

The background stories of those who have worked in the steelworks, develop the plot, or rather a philosophical debate with the rich use of facts, which is essentially equally applicable to any other environment. The playwright of the play, Ján Šimko, fits a number of strong ideas into the performing time of 105 minutes, the idea that resonates strongest is the need of the modern man to define the meaning of their existence in the context of the current modern era, in which he can not decide between the dictates of social custom and what feels in his heart.

This theatre performance for the discerning viewer functionally connects several elements – from video projection, dance interludes, interactive audience participation to the impressive verbal dexterity of the performers. For the added authenticity of the performance he added an unforced acting style, which underlined the documentary character of the play.

Multiple rounds of applause and cheers ended the show, but for some people the character and presentation of the play wasn’t “suitable” and they left the auditorium before the final scene.
