European Heritage Days (EHD) is a significant pan-European event organised by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, which focuses the attention of the wide public upon the exceptional values of the diverse cultural heritage in the 50 participating states. The main aim of EHD, which traditionally takes place in September, is to improve citizens‘ awareness of local heritage and deepen interest in its protection, as well as to improve awareness of its connection to European cultural heritage. During EHD, the public will have access to many sights, historic buildings and areas which are usually closed or serve other purposes. Special events are prepared in museums, galleries and normally visited sights. Concerts, exhibitions, festivals, seminars, creative workshops and other cultural events will be organised with EHD 2013.
