Every year in September, the Festival of Central European Theatres enlivens the streets of Košice with a genre-colourful programme. It brings theatre closer to people as well as audiences to whom the traditional theatre environment is foreign. The aim of this festival is to become a cultural event connected to the city of Košice and therefore contribute in its presentation as the holder of the European Capital of Culture 2013 title. Theatre performances take place in the exteriors on Hlavná Street and in some cases also in Košice State Theatre. The festival attracted the interest of the wide public and audiences exceeded 10,000. Its mission is to become the point of first contact with theatre art for future visitors to the theatre. The festival creates space for interaction and communication between theatres and awareness of their productions and theatre culture.
