„Music between East and West“ (MBEW) – an international concert project focusing upon the presentation and promotion of worldwide and Slovak classical music with the ambition of offering valuable artistic programmes to citizens and visitors to the Eastern Slovak towns which will also be attractive on an international scale. The explorative dramaturgical concept will emphasise the diversity of European music heritage. The 2013 event will be a performance by one of the best violinists in the world, Julia Fischer, who has family ties with Košice, ranks amongst the best interpreters in the world, which is proven by awards such as the „Artist of the Year“ (2007 – The Classic FM Gramophone Awards), „Instrumentalist of the Year 2008“ (2009 – MIDEM Classical Award) and others. MBEW events also include the introduction of one of the most famous and favourite vocal-instrumental pieces, „Carmina burana“ by Carl Orff. Top artists will participate in the concert: The Hungarian National Philharmonic Choir from Budapest, conductor Leoš Svárovský, an international arrangement of soloists and Košice State Philharmonic (May 2013). Another artist participating in the MBEW project is the world famous composer, arranger, pianist and conductor, Peter Breiner, who was born in Humenné. In the concert in November 2013, Mr. Breiner will act as conductor, composer and pianist – two pieces by Peter Breiner will be premiered. The MBEW project will also include concerts for the Ivan Sokol International Organ Festival.
