During the theatre‘s summer break, Theatre Kontra from Spišská Nová Ves is preparing an alternative theatre experience. The European Capital of Culture 2013 prepares several theatrical programmes for all lovers of theatre and this is one of them. The theatre was established in January 2007 by two young talented actors from Spiš region, Peter Čižmár and Miki Macala, and Polish director, Klaudyna Rozhin, who lives in England. Since their establishment they have shown 10 premieres and given almost 500 performances throughout Slovakia as well as abroad. The theatre has had a fantastic reception from the audience and critics: the Surprise New Drama Prize 2007, Boards 2007 – Discovery of the Season 2006/2007, price for the best acting performances in the festival in Kopřivnice – CZ, April 2010. During summer, the team of actors and Peter Čižmár will perform some of their plays not only in Košice (Rum and Vodka, Laughter in the Dark, Bedbound, Woman in Black, The Solo, Hamlet).
