A concert of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra will certainly be one of the biggest events of Košice – European Capital of Culture 2013. Within its exclusive Czech-Slovak tour, after a concert in Prague Spring Music Festival, the prominent Japanese orchestra will perform in Košice with their conductor, Kazuhiro Koizumi. The soloist in Dvořák‘s violin concert will be violinist Sayaka Shoji. She conquered the international music scene after her triumphant victory in the prestige Paganini Competition (1999), where she won as the only Japanese and, at the same time, the youngest artist in history. She cooperates with renowned conductors (Sir Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit, Mariss Jansons, Lorin Maazel, and others), and she plays with top orchestras from around the world (Berliner Philharmoniker, Bayerischer Staatsorchester, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and many others). The concert will start with a presentation of a Japanese contemporary piece: composer Kosaku Yamada’s Overture in D Major. The evening will culminate after Dvořák‘s violin concert with the magnificent Fifth Symphony from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
