Vladimír Beskid becomes Art Director of Košice 2013 non-profit organization
The curator and art historian Vladimir Beskid, who was previously involved in the preparation of the project Košice Interface 2013 with which Košice won the title of European Capital of Culture 2013, has become the new art director of Košice – ECC 2013. The selection panel was made up of Ján Sudzina, Director of Košice 2013, Michal Hladký, co-author of the Interface 2013 and Renáta Lenártová, Deputy Mayor of Košice. The panel was most persuaded by Mr. Beskid’s particular vision of the project.
“Each of the invited candidates came up with some interesting suggestions for the project. Vladimir Beskid among other things convinced us with his knowledge of the European and Kosice cultural and art environment. He has extensive experience as a manager,” said Ján Sudzina about the outcome of the selection process.
“I take the post of Art Director seriously, and I take it as a complete bundle,” replied V. Beskid. His project priority is creating a new model of transformation of the social and cultural environment of Eastern Slovakia; building its own network of partners´ sites, institutions and activities, promoting contemporary culture and art in public areas, as well as new technologies and intense cultural dialogue within the European area (including the East, beyond the Schengen borders).
Vladimír Beskid has worked for several cultural institutions in managerial positions in Slovakia and abroad. He has been a university teacher at several art departments of Slovak universities (Košice, Bratislava, Trnava). He has initiated and implemented a number of international projects and exhibitions. He has produced many publications, and he is a member of the Slovak section of AICA which is the highest professional organization based in Paris associating the most respected art critics. He lives and works in Trnava, Prague and Košice.
