Work on restoring the manor in Krásna is almost complete but it was delayed due to archaeological findings

One of the oldest classicist manors in Slovakia, situated in the centre of Košice – Krásna, is an important part of the historic heritage of the city and the neighbourhood. It is a single-storey building next to the church and forms part of the urban core of the residential community. “Without the reconstruction, further devastation of this historical building would take place and it wouldn’t be possible to use its unique space for various activities of a cultural and social nature,” reminded the Director of the non-profit making organisation, Save the Manor in Krásna, JUDr. Marek Kažimír. As he stressed, thanks to the manor reconstruction project, implemented within measure 7.1 of the priority axis “European Capital of Culture Košice 2013″ of the Regional Operational Programme, the cultural infrastructure will be strengthened and its quality improved. The maximum expenses represent a sum of almost €1.929m, whilst 85 per cent is being co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and 10 per cent is being financed by the Slovak Republic from the State budget. Reconstruction works are being implemented by the Prešov company, ROPO SK, s. r. o.

“The result will be a barrier free, technically valuable object, not just as part of the cultural infrastructure for organising events with the Košice – European Capital of Culture 2013 project, but also for organising events of a regional and international nature, traditional and contemporary art and history in the future,” added M. Kažimír.

According to the Director of the non-profit making organisation, Save the Manor in Krásna, works on restoring the manor commenced at the end of June 2012 and the restoration team are currently working simultaneously on its exterior façade as well as on renovating the interior. The electro-installation works are proceeding on the interior and the ornamental features of the façade are being produced. “The roof is 90 per cent finished and we’re only waiting for the extension – a glass construction – to be built. This extension will be joined to the original manor,” he said. “Some building works were delayed and the schedule was changed due to archaeological findings and the duty for them to be documented in terms of architecture and history, and therefore we will ask the Ministry of Culture SR for an extension to the completion date,” informed M. Kažimír. However, he said that the manor will be serving its purpose by summer at the latest.
