Japanese orchestra to perform in Košice soon
The concert of Tokyo Metropolitan Symphonic Orchestra will undoubtedly be one of the biggest events of Košice – European Capital of Culture 2013. The leading Japanese orchestra is on an exclusive Czech-Slovak tour, and will perform in Košice, lead by conductor Kazuhiro Koizumi, after a concert at the Prague Musical Spring festival.
Jordi Savall with Orchestra filled with sound every corner of St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral
Viola da gamba player, conductor and composer Jordi Savall with his ensemble Le Concert des Nations fulfilled the expectations of an unforgettable artistic experience, and fillied with perfect tones the entire St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral where these world-class musicians performed their concert. Audience did not at all regret attending this performance. It was a great opportunity to see and hear excellent musicians under the baton of a world-class artist.
His first nude painting earned Jakubisko a slap from his father
Juraj Jakubisko opened his exhibition in Košice on Saturday. At the opening he received an award from the Mayor of Košice. He recalled his first nude painting, for which he got a slap from his father. Visitors to the exhibition sometimes used magnifying glass to look at the mysterious pictures.
Sládek’s pantomime touched to tears
Milan Sládek’s rendition of the Stations of the Cross made many viewers cry. His unique performance attracted even non-believers to the St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral. People were leaving with a brilliant experience and emotion. The world-famous mime enjoyed the rest of the evening in the company of Juraj Jakubisko.
Jakubisko to show the artwork worth 700 000 CZK
For the next few days, Košice will live with Jakubisko, a native of the nearby Koyšov. This ECOC’s key figure will be introduced through his films as well as through his fine arts.
Jakubisko’s cinematographic gems adorned by fine arts
Košice will hold the film festival Jakubiskove dni (Jakubisko’s Days) on 23rd–30th March. Within the festival, Juraj Jakubisko will be presented also as a painter. An exceptional exhibition will be followed by screenings, throughout the week, of his famous films that have received dozens of awards. Cinema lovers will enjoy lectures by film experts, and the director himself will share his directorial experience with the audience.

Japanese theatre captivated Košice
ECOC – Košice 2013 brought some Japanese flavour to Košice. An extraordinary experience was delivered by the Little Kyōgen Theatre Brno actors and true Japanese masters of their art. They even engaged the audience in the performance. People succumbed easily to this unconventional genre.
