A CASE HISTORY OF A SOCIETY

A CASE HISTORY OF A SOCIETY

Following the last year’s success of Anamnesis by Viktor Bodó, his student director Dániel D. Kovács is coming to put questions about the mental health of society. The ensemble Sputnik is back at Divadelná Nitra. Once again with a good portion of humour and absurdity, this time in the project Parallel Lives on the topic of secret police actives during the communist regime. Or not only then?

TIME BARRED BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Inspired by the hitherto unclarified case of the strange death by priest Coufal in 1981, the authors of the latest production at the SkRAT Theatre are studying the mechanisms which enabled, within the secret police ŠtB, the building up of a parallel power structure and mutual checking of individual members of staff including colleagues at all levels of this organisation. In Košice we had a chance to see Japanese farce again after only a short time. Like the first performance, Friday can be summed up in one sentence. It was famous, surprised the eyes, made the ears happy, got the heart beating and amused the audience. The Small Kjógenu Theatre from Brno with its guest – master Motohiko Shigejam, of Kyoto’s professional actor of the traditional school, Okura in the main role and in his native language, presented three farces in the historic town hall: Voice at the Door, Tea Caddy and Large Clothing.

Milan Sládek’s rendition of the Stations of the Cross made many viewers cry. His unique performance attracted even non-believers to the St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral. People were leaving with a brilliant experience and emotion. The world-famous mime enjoyed the rest of the evening in the company of Juraj Jakubisko.
