Japanese kyōgen farce first time in Košice
The Little Kyōgen Theatre Brno, in cooperation with the European Capital of Culture – Košice 2013 and the State Theatre Košice – will present two Japanese farces, “Buaku” and “Boshibari”. “Each performance must meet three conditions – surprise the eye, please the ear and sound the heart…,” says Zeami Motokiyo.
One Day Jazz Festival first time in Košice
Slovakia is constantly experiencing a growing interest in jazz. Therefore, the One Day Jazz Festival organizers decided, in collaboration with the European Capital of Culture 2013, to bring the festival to East Slovakia for the first time in its history. On 26th February 2013 at 7pm, Košice’s Historic Town Hall will host performances by Frank McComb, Andrej Šeban Band, and jazz trio Depart Refire.
Quasar Ensemble will be resident at the Kasárne/Kulturpark in 2013
During their residency at the Kasárne/Kulturpark, the ensemble will mediate to Košice the top quality of the world’s contemporary music scene. Chamber concerts of the first half of 2013 will be held at the VojtechLöfflerMuseum, and then the concerts will move to the premises of the Cultural Centre after its reconstruction. The residential ensemble intends to create a permanent venue in Košice for a quality performance of chamber music of international standards.
Jamiroquai sells out STEEL ARENA – concert was the climax of the two-day Opening Ceremony for ECOC 2013
Not content to rest on their laurels! British funkjazz group Jamiroquai headed by front man Jay Kay got a full STEEL ARENA dancing and singing. From the first minute of the concert, the stadium was alive.

The Košice Space Programme was revealed in the State Theatre
Invited guests, many prominent figures in political and social life from Slovakia, European institutions and several European countries filled the historical Košice State Theatre (ST) at 4.00pm today. The event started with speeches by the President of SR Ivan Gašparovič, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth Androulla Vassiliou, Prime Minister of SR Robert Fico,Minister of Culture SR Marek Maďarič, Mayor of Košice Richard Raši and the Chairman of the Košice Self-Governing Region (KSGR) Zdenko Trebuľa, who started the official part of the Košice – European Capital of Culture (ECOC) 2013 Opening Ceremony.
Ida Kelarová impresses guests at the Intermezzo club
Another of the events in the opening ceremony of Košice ECOC 2013 allowed guests to spend Sunday morning having a nice breakfast in the company of the phenomenal Czech singer, musician and choirmistress Ida Kelarová and her musicians.

The unique TRIANGO project from Peter Breiner returned to Košice to the Historic Town Hall yesterday. As part of the opening ceremony of ECOC 2013, the Slovak trio of top musicians: Peter Breiner (pianist and composer), Stano Paluch (violinist) and Boris Lenko (accordionist) offered their fans a dose of great music. The TRIANGO Project conceals a sparky embrace of the passion of dance-halls in Buenos Aires, as well as jazz improvisation.
Robots worth €12,000 took over Košice
Motional robots are being developed in Košice. A humanoid robot worth €12,000 also sat down for Sunday breakfast. You can also purchase a pet for €2,000. A robotic dog immediately stole the children’s hearts.
Delightful klezmer tones enlivened the synagogue
Jews and their culture are an inseparable part ofKosice’s history. These remarkable people built several synagogues in the city prior to 1939. One is onPuškinova Street. This is the one which came to life with the tones of the local Kaschauer Klezmer Band.
Peter Bič Project gave a great gig
In the late hours of Saturday the band Peter Bič Project pleased its fans – with songs from their old album as well as new ones. The evening passed off in a great atmosphere. The band started the concert at exactly 21.00 and really got things going in the club – people had a great time, dancing and singing.
Phenomenal Serb Petar Marić captivated the people of Košice
Connecting People – this is one of the most important missions of culture, which was done perfectly on Saturday evening by the young Serbian musician, accordion player Petar Marić. Whilst to date very few people had heard of him in Košice, since the ECOC 2013 Opening Ceremony weekend he has become an unforgettable figure, and not only for the people of Košice.
